As an IT Admin, managing devices on a large scale is challenging and time-consuming when you have to manually add several devices. Josys facilitates you to add multiple devices seamlessly by uploading the CSV File. For this, download a sample file, enter the device's data, and upload it to add the devices into Josys. You may also add more details for the devices according to your requirements by creating the custom fields and displaying them on the Devices screen.
Prerequisite
Before you import the device data, make sure that you have:
- Filled in the data within the sample file in the correct format.
For Device Custom Fields
- Created the Custom Fields to incorporate additional details of the device before beginning the import.
Added the options in the dropdown list for the device's custom fields.
You can create the Device Custom field from Settings>>Devices Custom Fields.
Steps to Import Bulk Devices
Step 1: Navigate to Devices and click Add.
Step 2: Select the Import Devices details from a file option.

Step 3: On the following screen, you can:
- Click Instructions to access all supported resources.
- Click Download a sample file to download a sample CSV file in which you can fill in the device details and upload.

Note:
If you want to know the supported formats of the device's details, then you can first add a device manually and then export the device's data to get the template.
Step 4: When you click download, the following screen appears from where you can download the CSV file.

Step 5: Edit the CSV file to input device data and save the CSV file.

Note:
1. When you assign users to the devices via a CSV file, make sure to put the device status in_use. In this case, it is mandatory to mention the Assigned Date. The supported formats of dates are yyyy-mm-dd or yyyy/mm/dd; however, date formats like dd/mm/yyyy, mm/dd/yyyy are supported and can be added upon request.
2. While adding device details, make sure to enter the value in the mandatory fields. You can identify such fields from the Devices>>Add>>Add Device details screen. By default, Asset Number is a mandatory field. However, you can create custom fields from Settings>>Device Custom Fields and make the fields mandatory.
Step 6: After you enter the device details in the CSV file, import the file by dragging the file or clicking Select File on the following screen. Click Import to import the CSV file.

Note: Make sure that you enter a unique asset number to prevent overwriting of existing asset numbers.
When the file is uploaded, an information message appears on the screen. You can track the status of the file upload from the Scheduled Task>>Completed tab. The imported file details of the devices are displayed on the Devices screen.
1. You can upload only 5000 rows of data in one attempt. Please split the file for a larger data transfer
2. An Error message may appear for uploading of larger than 5000 file capacity or any inaccuracy/ incompatibility of the data
Once the devices are uploaded, you can assign or unassign a device from the User Profile.
Josys allows you to maintain a detailed history of your device assignments, including records of all previous users for that device. You can easily Import Device Assignment History via CSV.
